This is one of those I've-been-gone-a-long-time, did-anyone-miss-me? posts in which I bore you with events that have transpired during my forced hiatus from Xangaland.
So. Let's get started!
AT&T so kindly (stupidly, accidentally) cut our internet and gave our port to somebody else. Then they were unable to reconnect us because there were no more open ports in our neighborhood, so we went without internet for about a month and a half. But now we're back! So hi.
Thomas is almost seven months old, has both his bottom teeth (and has bitten my poor nipple with them), and is crawling like crazy. We're scurrying to baby-proof.
My family just left Houston yesterday with all their stuff to go live in Tyler. I'm sad.
I've been taking a poetry class, and I think I've found my "thing." I've known since I started undergrad that I wanted to go to grad school, but when I got intellectually burnt out and had a baby, I thought that it wouldn't be possible. But, now I see that an MFA in poetry would be perfect...if I can nab a fellowship or a teaching assistantship with a stipend or tuition waiver. Rachel don't want more debt than she already has.
Now, please give me a glimpse of what I've missed in your lives. I don't really miss blogging, but I have missed you, my Xanga friends.
A lot. So please, update me!

Oy vey, it's been some time since we last spoke, haven't we, Rachel? I've missed you - no thanks to AT&T! LOL. Welcome back
I myself have not been on Xanga much. Real life came a-calling, and I responded, thank God!
So good to hear that Thomas is doing fine, though poor nipple of yours LOL!
And I think that MFA in poetry would be really good. Do share with us some of your work! I love good poetry.
P.S. Guess what? I'm reading about cloth diapering on a blog (Blogspot, not Xanga), and the funny thing is, I'm not even married and I certainly don't have children. HAHAH
Just thought I'd share that with you since you're a mom!
And lastly, I'm engaged.
(But keep it shhhhhhhhhh. Thanks. Hehe.)
I have missed you! I think it's great that you want to go back to school. I just got accepted into my master's program for elementary ed. so I'm pretty excited about that. You should post updated pictures of your baby soon. He is SO cute. And I'm sorry for your nipple.
Holy cow, AT&T really screwed up! Unbelievable.
When I was taking poetry classes every semester (as an undergrad...though some of the classes counted for grad students as well) I was so up on writing my own...it flowed out as normally as prose. I miss those days. Taking the classes really made my brain sharp and my creativity alive.
We've been really busy...houseguests off and on (everyone who moved here when we did is moving this year, but we extended a year)...dog sitting...weekends away. We're doing habitat for humanity this weekend and errands in CIVILIZATION. Yes, I'm going to Nordstrom and asking an expert to help me find a bra that fits. I haven't been comfortable in a bra in as long as I can remember. And next weekend we're going camping in Big Bend National Park...not my cup of tea, but I hope it will be fun. I do 95% of my blogging and emailing from work (it's 40hrs of manning a desk with less than 40hrs of work) and my boss has been blocking gmail and our internet has been intermittent. That's about it on the updates. Hugs to you and Thomas!
I know I did. I've been pulling up my subs tab and hoping for an update from you for the longest time. And sometimes, if you check on your feedback log, I just go to your page hoping that the reason why I'm not seeing you on my inbox is you got buried by my megatons of time-stamping friends and not because you've been posting, but every time I go here, nada. Which really made me sad.
Hmmm, did you know that I've started my new job with IBM? During the first month, everything was great. But lately, my teammates are ganging up on me. Like pulling me down. It made me feel bad yesterday, but talking to my boyfriend about it and to my friends about it, helped me feel better.
I'm also gonna be the keyboardist of my band.
And oh, my niece started walking last Sunday. And I was the one who taught her her first steps. :) Hehehe
I missed you.
Good luck with school. :) I am wanting to so badly go back to taking a few classes, but I just don't see the being possible with us moving into a new house over the summer (and probably doubling our monthly payment towards a house). I definitely want to go back soon though.
Look, who's back!
Wow, quite a lot has happened in your life, huh?
I would so love to go back to school and to grad school! Like you, reason is, the kids.
Glad you are having this chance for you to extend your career! Have fun with that and may you continuously, succeed!
Blessings to your Thomas!
well I can tell you can rise above negative stuff because you keep your eyes on the important stuff.
I missed you too. best wishes on the poetry, I think Bob Dylan should get the Nobel prize for poetry.
women don't usually go for him, ah well, but I got a batch of my poety upstairs.
So glad to see you back, I always enjoy your posts! That really stinks about the internet thing, did you raise hell?!?
@bella_esperanza - Real Life is an awesome thing to come calling. Congratulations on your exciting news. :) I cloth diaper Thomas about half the time.
@LultimaNotte - I'll get around to pictures, um, sometime...hehe. I'm so happy that you were accepted into the program you wanted. Good for you!
@BigToePeople - Perhaps being busy is better than being bored? For me, it's a toss up, lol. Good luck with the bra shopping--that's one of my least favorite things to do. The poetry class I'm taking is the second one I've done in undergrad. The first one was two years ago, and since then my voice has changed drastically. I think I can attribute it to all the reading I've done since then, and simple life experience. My professor is really encouraging me to go for the MFA. He told me one day after class that I "have a gift that can't be taught." Wow!
@Amarisa - I think the bra shopping was the best part of the weekend because now my "oobies" (what my friend's toddler calls them) are more comfortable than they've been my entire life.
What your prof told you is awesome, and so encouraging! I love teachers like that.
I am so glad you are back! It sounds like life has just rolled right along for you! (I just had a fight with AT&T about screwing up our accounts. It must be in the air with them.)
What have you missed?
Not a ton. Kids growing. My muse abandoned me. Dan posted for me. I have haters, now. (Scary). I might begin teaching again next year. That's all. Lots has happened, yet when called to tell it, I can't. Go figure.
@purplepixiepoo - A great job can, at times, be ruined by its social atmosphere. I'm sorry your colleagues are treating you poorly. And I didn't know you played keyboard--that's awesome. How old is your niece? I think that Thomas will be walking soon--he keeps pulling up on everything so that he can stand.
@lilwetduckie@momaroo - All in good time, I suppose. What kind of classes do you want to take? Do you want a degree?
@jenggai2308 - Hey, have you moved yet?? That was in the works, right?
@mortimerZilch - To be honest, I haven't read any Bob Dylan. I have read some Allen Ginsberg, who--I think--is more of a "guy's" poet.
@yourheadispunk - We raised enough hell that they sent us a $7 check in the mail, lol. A little random, but hey...seven dollars!
@BigToePeople - "Oobies", that's so cute. My five-year-old sisters-in-law call them "hips." Why, I don't know. I think they've got their anatomy confused.
@Krissy_Cole - "Lots has happened, yet when called to tell it, I can't. Go figure." I have that problem, too. For me, it's usually just a slew of tiny details, and those are hard to describe I guess. Why do you have haters??
@Amarisa - I am probably just going to get a business degree. My husband's dream job is to own his own car audio shop (he loves doing it and is really good at it, sometimes!)... and I think it would be good to get a business degree and take a lot of extra finance classes on the side to help us out with that kind of stuff, so I can finance the business. I love to write (aren't very good at it, but love doing it), so I may take some of those kinds of classes if I have any extra classesI need to waste. Hehe.
